The Function of Precharge Relay The precharge relay is designed to charge capacitors in the electric drive system before connecting the battery pack. When an EV is turned on, initially, the precharge relay closes, allowing current to flow from the battery to the capacitors. This process ensures that the capacitors charge up to a safe level before the main contactor closes.
